This year, Family and Children's Service launched the Teen Scene Youth Jobs Program – A structured 18-week program for teens ages 15-18 years of age who attend a Lynn public high school. The workforce employment program is designed to combine educational enrichment with hands-on work experience. Life skills and career development workshops include VOICES and Making Proud Choices curricula.
Participants will attend weekly workshops on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. Activities will specifically focus on goal setting, resume preparation, financial literacy, social justice, homework assistance, and personal brand development. On Tuesdays and Thursdays participants will attend an internship at F&CS or an ‘externship’ with a community partner or local business.
TEEN SCENE Mission Statement
TEEN SCENE’s mission is to aid in reducing teen violence by providing a safe place where youth are motivated to discover new experiences, engage in activities that will build assets, resiliency, social skills and excite them about learning. We believe that project-based learning will be beneficial to the academic and professional development of the teens we serve as they grow to be the new leaders of our community. Continued academic support, violence prevention and enrichment activities help students see an improvement in grades and have an easier time dealing with the pressures of adolescence and school, allowing them to increase their community connections and involvement.
Daily Schedule: Monday - Friday 3:00 pm - 6:00 pm
