Full-time Grants and External Communications Manager
Reports to: Director of Development
Who we are: Family & Children’s Service (F&CS) has been serving residents of Lynn and surrounding communities since 1885. F&CS is a multiservice community nonprofit organization that strengthens the life skills of families, children, and individuals of all ages. We offer access to a full range of services that help participants develop skills to build stable, productive, and healthy lives. Our programs address specific needs, offering proven and professionally managed services in multiple languages through center-based and in-home settings. With offices in Lynn and Chelsea, F&CS offers home-based and group parent leadership training, support groups, youth development services, community health education, case management, support and stabilization services, advocacy for court-involved youth, and emergency financial assistance.
Position Summary: Under the supervision of the Director of Development, and working with the Executive Director, the Grants and External Communications Manager is responsible for managing and writing grants and all external and internal communication and providing administrative support to the Development Director.
Communications: Manage all written communications (print and electronic) to support development strategy.
- Research, write, edit, and oversee production and distribution of e-newsletter, print newsletter, donor communications, annual reports, press releases, flyers, and organizational announcements
- Coordinate agency requests for print and electronic media
- Assist with written communications for agency programs
- Research, write and collect program case stories and photographs
- Maintain social media platforms (including website, Twitter page, Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube)
- Assist with the creation and implementation of fundraising campaigns
Grant Writing, and Research: Manage all aspects of the grant preparation and submission process, including:
- Research and identify grant and contract opportunities offered by public agencies, foundations, and other organizations
- Independent narrative development (and as part of a team for more complex applications)
- Coordinate relevant F&CS staff to obtain the information required to present the program's needs, goals, objectives, and budget
- Prepare annual renewal applications
- Maintain a grant writing calendar
- Prepare reports, track and maintain documentation
- Manage and steward relationships with foundations
Administration and Planning: Lead and support administrative processes and planning activities.
- Assist with planning donor cultivation events and activities
- Assist with mailings for direct mail campaigns
- Data entry and gift acknowledgment correspondence
- Attend bidder conferences when needed and document the process and actions needed
Other Supporting responsibilities:
- Assist with identifying and connecting with potential corporate sponsors for agent events
- Assist with external organizations events and activities that engage the general public
- Attend and participate in training that pertains to fundraising and communication
- Support the Director of Development and Executive Director in other areas, including copywriting for marketing, PR, direct mail, and event promotion.
- May require occasional night and weekend hours
Other helpful qualities and skillsets:
- Familiarity with government and foundation policies, procedures and guidelines, and business principles governing grant preparation and submission.
- Experience working in an ethnically, culturally, and racially diverse environment preferred
- Entrepreneurial perspective
- Graphic design and photography skills a plus
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree preferred
- 2-3 years successful experience in the key focus areas: Proposal development, grant writing, budget preparation, and submission to key funders and supporters
- Outstanding writing and verbal communication skills, including the ability to be articulate a persuasive argument for and a case for funding
- Exceptional attention to detail
- Successful experience working in a deadline-driven environment
- Ability to work independently, set priorities, and complete work accurately and in a sufficient time for colleague review
- Skills in internet prospecting and research
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team
- Strong skills with Microsoft Office Suite
- Ability to collaborate with a team
- The ability to manage up and generate new ideas for bringing in new revenue
- Must have a positive can-do attitude
- Must have a valid driver’s license
Salary: $50,000 - $55,000 a year
